Day 3 of Biman Bangladesh DC 10 S2-ACR Final Scenic Flight 24-02-14
McDonnell Douglas DC-10 Biman Bangladesh Airlines | Last Ever Passenger Flight!
This is a little bit different to my other flight videos...
On Monday 24th February 2014, a day that will go down in aviation history, S2-ACR "New Era" by Biman Bangladesh Airlines operated the last ever DC-10 passenger flight in the world! It was an enthuiast flight, doing a 1 hour scenic tour over northern Britain. & I was fortunate enough to be onboard that flight.
We were called to board at Gate 65, where we were greeted with cake & champagne by the Managing Director of Biman Airlines who then done a speech (which is included in the video!). He confirms that this is definitly the LAST EVER DC-10 passenger flight anywhere in the world. He continued to explain why they chose Birmingham as the host of the DC-10 retirement. Because as of Summer 2014 Biman will fly their new 777-300ER aircraft from Dhaka to Birmingham and onwards to New York, so they felt Birmingham was a nice way of introducing the airline to the city. Kevin the MD then joined the press & the passengers as we went out to join the aircraft!
Before boarding, a security perimeter had been set up around the aircraft and we were allowed to walk around the aircraft and take some pictures :) Some of my walk around footage is also featured in this video.
Then we finally boarded the flight which was full of press and aviation enthusiasts and took to the skies for the last time. Departing BHX's RWY15 and turning round to head northbound and climb to 26,000ft. Once airborne they did announce the flight deck doors would be open to allow us to go and have a look, however with everyone trying to get to the front they soon closed it again and waiting until we had landed again.
After just over an hour in the air we returned to Birmingham (where we had definitly attracted the attention of plenty of people) and we were then greeted by a water canon arch salute from the fire department.
A quick look in the flight deck and I was among the last 25 passengers to ever step foot off of a DC-10 ever again. A great flight, fantastic sound and very nice crew all happy to give the aircraft a warm send off.
However there were some very ignorant, stupid people (passengers I mean) on the aircraft aswell. Such as the man behind me. Who spent most of the taxi on the way out on his phone! And no sooner had the aircraft touched down (before we had vacated the runway!) you can hear him on his phone again! Because he was on his phone, he failed to hear them announce we were getting the water canon salute so you can hear his confusion at the fire engines and hear him say "It's Raining..." -_- You can hear me & others laugh at his ignorance. Very stupid, rude man!
BUT other than him everyone was in good spirits and it was a great send off to such an iconic trijet!
