Emirates A380 at Birmingham Airport's 70th anniversary

Emirates put the A380 on their daily midday B'ham UK service on the day the airport celebrated it's 70th birthday and official opening of the new International Pier. This was the first time an A380 has been scheduled into another UK airport other than at Heathrow. The aircraft shown here is registered A6-EDE, it arrived at 12:15 and departed at 15:30. The take off was slightly long as there was a 10KT tailwind, this was so all those gathered around the terminals and Control Tower.

You'll notice that the plane takes off in the opposite direction. This is despite the wind blowing behind the aircraft and all aircraft before and after it taking off over our heads. Apparently this was so the plane landed and took off alongside the new International Terminal that had been opened that day!
